The 25 Best Rock Vocalists of All Time

Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell takes the No. 1 spot here. He was one of the chief architects of the Seattle sound emerging from the ’90’s (aka the ‘grunge’ era). Though he fronted bands such as Temple of the Dog and Audioslave, the bulk of Cornell’s discography is with hard rock band Soundgarden. While Chris’s technical abilities may not be as impressive as some of the other singers on this list, he takes the top spot due to his ability to move you to different emotional hemispheres with his voice. From high pitched heavy metal wales in songs like “Beyond the Wheel” to his hauntingly beautiful cover of “Ave Maria,” Cornell masters every vocal attempt he has taken on in his stunning musical career. Tragically, having struggled with depression for most of life, Cornell took his own life in 2017 at the age of 52. A devastating blow to the music world, it’s safe to say that “no one sings like you anymore,” Mr. Cornell.
