Amy Winehouse

One cannot think about the vocal catalogue of rock n’ roll while glossing over singer Amy Winehouse. Born in London, Winehouse brought nostalgic sounds of 1950’s jazz (reminiscent of Billie Holiday) back to mainstream music again. With her cheeky wit in tow, Winehouse first sang the hook of what would become one of her greatest hits — “Rehab” — as a joke while walking the streets of New York City with musician Mark Ronson. Plagued with alcoholism, drug addiction, and rocky personal relationships, Winehouse’s tumultuous career came to a halt at the age of 27 when she died of alcohol poisoning. Her contributions to music continue to live on far beyond her short life.
