The Clash, a punk-rock band from the UK, was active from the mid 1970s through the mid-1980s. Formed in London, its original members included Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Keith Levene, Terry Chimes, and John Mellor (Joe Strummer). There were quite a few changes to the line-up throughout the band’s history, especially in regards to who was the drummer.

The group quickly gained notoriety with its gritty lyrics centered around major political issues of the time. Over time, the band incorporated elements of reggae and ska into their sound. After the band fired Jones in 1983, it slowly disintegrated.
