Coldplay was formed in 1996 in London by Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. The group met while they were attending University College London and played together for a couple of years as different band names before acquiring the name Coldplay from another band. They released their first two EPs in 1998 and 1999, Safety and The Blue Room respectively.
It wasn’t until their hit song “Yellow” in 2000 that they became an overnight sensation and their debut album Parachutes that was released later that year only solidified their place among rock stars of the time. Since their creation in 1998, they’ve put together 8 studio albums under 6 different labels.
