The Carpenters

The Carpenters were a brother and sister duo born in New Haven, Connecticut and grew up Downey, California. They each had their focus, Richard practiced the piano and Karen perfected her skills with the drums. They signed with A&M records in 1969 after working very hard and perfecting their skills. Their hits “(They Long to Be) Close to You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” skyrocketed them to fame.

They are one of the best selling artist groups of all time with over 90 million records sold. They disbanded in 1979 when Richard became addicted to drugs and Karen died in 1983 from heart complications due to anorexia.
