The Stone Temple Pilots are a grunge rock band originally formed in San Diego by Scott Weiland, Dan DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz. Originally, their four piece lineup consisted of guitar, vocals, bass, and drums. Originally called Mighty Joe Young, they changed their name to Stone Temple Pilots after signing with Atlantic Records.
They were one of the most successful bands during the 90s, releasing five albums before breaking up in 2002. After its members focused on other projects, the band ultimately reunited in 2008, went on tour, and released another album in 2010.
Although both lead vocalists, Weiland and Chester Bennington, have died in recent years, the band has continued to release music with Jeff Gutt on lead vocals, with their most recent album Perdida releasing in February of 2020.
