Run DMC is a Hip Hop group of three men: Run, real name Joseph Simmons, born November 14, 1964 in Queens, NY; DMC, real name Darryl McDaniels, born May 31, 1964 in Harlem, NY; and Jam Master Jay, real name Jason Mizell, January 21, 1965 in Brooklyn, NY.
They formed the group in 1983 and became one of the most famous Hip Hop acts in history, earning the first ever Gold record as a Hip Hop group. They created a whole new sound in Hip Hop and Rap, making their beats sound harder and less dance-able than previous acts before them.
