Ringo Starr is best known as the drummer for The Beatles. Born in Liverpool in 1940, Starr replaced Pete Best as the Beatles’ drummer in 1970. He appeared on all their albums and played the drums on all but two of The Beatles’ singles. Starr was known for his distinctive high hat style, heard on “Come Together,” and his signature drum fills, heard on “Hey Jude” and “Helter Skelter.” He performed lead vocals on songs including “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends.”
After the Beatles’ 1970 breakup, Starr enjoyed a successful solo career. He had eight Top Ten hits in the United States, including #1 hits “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Beatles and as a solo artist. Now in his seventies, Starr is married to Barbara Bach and continues to tour and record.
