Appearing on Queen’s 1975 album A Night at the Opera, “I’m In Love With My Car” is a showcase for the group’s drummer Roger Taylor, who sang lead vocal on the track as well. Selling over 4 million copies worldwide, the album helped pave the way for Queen’s global success. It was recorded at Sarm East Studios in London and produced by Queen and Roy Thomas Baker.

Wow…I teach a class at NYU called The Art of Recording Classic Drums and I will definitely be using this on ’70s day. His tom sounds were so incredibly deep and present. Sitting here hypothesizing on how the overheads were placed….

Thanks for the comment and glad you have a great use for this. No question that Roger Taylor is a super-underated powerhouse drummer and I’m guessing that Roy Thomas Baker’s propensity to really use up the tape when recording (i.e. record hot) is also contributing to the sound.
