The song was written by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton (R.I.P.) and Dave Mustaine, marking one of two on the album co-written by Mustaine, who departed the band to form Megadeth earlier. The track was produced by Metallica, Flemming Rasmussen, and Mark Whitaker.
