The Cure, founded in Great Britain, is famous for their post-punk and new wave music, including the albums Three Imaginary Boys (1979), Seventeen Seconds (1980), and Pornography (1982). The band’s members, Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, Laurence Tolhurst, Marc Ceccagno, and Alan Hill, originally met at Notre Dame Middle School.
They earned their first recording contract after winning a talent contest, and rapidly developed a devoted following among the emerging Goth scene. Their commercial success began with a single “Let’s Go to Bed” in 1982 and then “Just Like Heaven”, which made it to the Billboard Top 40 in the United States.
Their status as superstars was cemented when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
