System of a Down is a heavy metal band that was formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. The current band members are Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan. Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian met when they were both working on separate projects at the same recording studio.
They have released five studio albums during their career and three of them debuted at Number 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. They have been nominated for four Grammy awards, and their song “B.Y.O.B.” won a Grammy award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006. The band went on hiatus in 2006 but returned to the scene in 2010, although they have not released new material since 2005.
System of a Down has sold over 40 million records to date and two of their singles have reached number 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart.
