Michael Jackson’s major hit “Beat It” appeared on his 1982 album Thriller. While the release spawned numerous hits, this one was unique because it also featured a guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen, who reportedly played on the track for free. The track won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. It was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones.
