The Guess Who released “American Woman” in 1970 on the same-titled album.  It became a smash success, charting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and became the group’s best-selling album in the U.S.   The tune, written by Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Jim Kale, and Garry Peterson, later became a significant hit for Lenny Kravitz as well.  It was recorded at RCA Mid-America Recording Center in Chicago, Illinois and was produced by Jack Richardson.
