Most well known for their hit song “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” Tears for Fears is a British new-wave band made up of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith out of the ashes of their old band, Graduate. They’ve been active since 1981 when the pair formed the group together. The two parted company in 1991 before coming back together in 2000. Orzabal continued to release work under the band’s name between 1991 and 2000.
In 1985 the duo released the album “Songs From the big Chair” which contained “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” earning the pair a Brit Award for best British single, and launching them in to the stratosphere of stardom.
Controversy surrounded the band in 1985 when they pulled out of Live Aid, which was a charity event in Philadelphia, supposedly due to some background musicians being out of contract. The band was disliked because of the decision even though they were promoted as being part of the show before they had decided to appear.
