The Screaming Trees, a rock band fronted by singer Mark Lanegan, began playing and recording in 1985 in Ellensburg, Washington, and rose to popularity during the so-called grunge musical period of the 1990’s. The band officially broke up in 2000 after achieving moderate success, having recorded a top 10 single in the US and gaining international recognition.
Some band members later went on to form other musical projects.
The Screaming Trees are regarded as a major part of the grunge movement, though their sound was more consistent with hard rock and psychedelia.
