Off the Primus 1991 release, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” became a popular single, rising to #23 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It also garnered airplay on MTV which helped the album eventually sell over 1 million copies. The track’s lyrics were written by leader Les Claypool, while music and production were credited to Primus.
