Joy Division released “Love Will Tear Us Apart” as a single in 1980 and it also appeared on their Substance compilation album in 1988. The track became the artist’s first hit, reaching #13 on the UK Singles Chart. Deborah Curtis, married to the act’s vocalist Ian Curtis, had the phrase “Love Will Tear Us Apart” inscribed on his memorial stone after his 1980 suicide. The track was recorded at Pennine Studios in the U.K. and produced by Martin Hannett and Joy Division.
